Meet Randall Sexton

Randall Sexton

California-based artist, Randall Sexton, is nationally known for his use of color and expressive brushwork in oil paintings of “everyday” scenes. Raised in rural Connecticut, Sexton moved to San Francisco, CA in 1980 after completing a BFA from the University of Connecticut, Storrs.

The Bay Area has proven to be home, where he has earned a great reputation for being an educator as well as a fine artist. He taught classes in drawing, painting, and composition at the San Francisco Academy of Art until 2005. He now leads private workshops around the country and is a freelance instructor at Pixar Studios in Emmeryville, CA.

Acknowledged by jurors and artists alike, Randall has garnered national awards for his paintings. At the inaugural 2006 Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational, Randall was award the Best In Show and Artists’ Choice awards. Since that time, Randall has garnered nine awards during the annual Maui Plein Air Painting Invitationals with Artists’ Choice award being awarded four of the years. Pretty amazing. Being recognized by your peers (probably the most serious critiques) is truly an honor.

He has been a participant in the Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational since its inception in 2006. To learn more about Randall and view some of his works, visit his website.

Workshop

Maui Arts League is excited to offer two plein air painting workshops in conjunction with the February, 2018 Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational. Both professional artists excel at ‘teaching.’  It is one thing to be a great artist, and yet another to be a superior instructor. Our workshop teachers are selected from the group of MPAPI professional ‘visiting artists’. Leon Holmes from Australia and Morgan Samuel Price from Florida will share their painting knowledge and techniques with  workshop attendees. You won’t want to miss out.
