2017 ‘Color Me Happy’ Youth Paint Out

Maui Arts League introduced the ‘Color Me Happy’ Youth Paint Out Workshop at their 2017 Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational. Forty youth registered to participate in the program. It was great seeing all the kids, 2nd through 12th grades, experience plein air painting. That Sunday was a perfect sunshiny day and the kids did a great job. After the paint out the paintings were hung in the gallery ballroom at the Royal Lahaina Resort.

The youth voted for their favorite painting and Blick art supplies gift certificates were given to the top three winners:
1st Place: Zoe Hirschson, Lahainaluna High School
2nd Place: Matea Prestage, Hawaii Technology Academy
3rd Place: Joemori Langaman, Lahainaluna High School

The success of this event is due to Nancy Young, retired Lahainaluna High School art teacher. She created the workshop curriculum, promoted it with art teachers in our schools, and orchestrated the event. She, along with MPAPI volunteers, made the program so special.

Workshop

Maui Arts League is excited to offer two plein air painting workshops in conjunction with the February, 2018 Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational. Both professional artists excel at ‘teaching.’  It is one thing to be a great artist, and yet another to be a superior instructor. Our workshop teachers are selected from the group of MPAPI professional ‘visiting artists’. Leon Holmes from Australia and Morgan Samuel Price from Florida will share their painting knowledge and techniques with  workshop attendees. You won’t want to miss out.
