2016 Collectors’ Gala – Video

2016 Invited Artists maui Plein Air Painting Invitational

We had a great evening at Village Galleries in Lahaina. Dan McMahon of Maui Island Video captured the excitement of the evening. The exhibit of 100+ freshly painted artworks was incredibly inspiring. Scroll down to see the video or view the Gala video on YouTube.

Sixteen awards were presented and Jason Sacran from Arkansas received $1000 for 2016 Best in Show (BIS) for his painting ‘Lahaina Dusk.’ Jean Stern, Executive Director, from The Irvine Museum judged the event and indicated he had a tough time this year selecting ‘one’ painting from the collection of highly refined impressionist artworks to receive the BIS award.

The Collectors’ Gala at the Village Gallery was a full house. The evening started with an introduction of the 25 participating artists, presentation of 16 awards, and a Hawaiian Opening and chant by Clifford Nae‘ole, Hawaiian Cultural Advisor for the Ritz Carlton, Kapalua – Maui. It was great fun to see all the awesome artworks and get caught up in the buzz of the crowd viewing and purchasing art. The evening was catered by Maui Prime Fine Foods, Maui’s Gourmet and Specialty Food Store in Lahaina. Guests enjoyed oyster shooters, veggie kabobs, Kobe beef meatballs to name a few gourmet items as well as champagne and wine.

In 2017 the MPAPI workshop is taking a different approach. This 4-day workshop is a 'dual-teaching' workshop lead by Jason Sacran and John P Lasater, IV. Our workshop teachers are selected from the group of professional 'visiting artists'. Classes are usually comprised of local Maui artists, workshop teacher referrals, and those wishing to take a class from someone that focuses on specific painting techniques that are of interest to them.
